Anton's Auction: Remembering fallen freelance photographer Anton Hammerl

ANTON Hammerl was a freelance photographer covering the Libyan uprising when he was killed last year.

He wasn't there for the glory. He wasn't shooting for a multi-national media outlet. Or a press agency.

He was a dedicated freelance photographer who paid the ultimate price for his desire to show the world the brutality of the uprising in Libya in 2011.

In Pictures: See some of the work that has been donated to the auction
Anton's death, at the hands of Gaddafi loyalists, has been mourned by not only his loved ones but also the international photographic community.

Photo-journalists and foundations from around the world have donated a wealth of images to help raise money to support his family: his wife Penny Sukhjraj and their three children.

Prints, tours and a wealth of extras have been donated to a charity auction at Christies in New York on May 15, with the proceeds going to the young family Anton left behind.

Photographers Giles Dudley and João Silva, who were both severely injured covering the war in Afghanistan have donated works.

Pieces from Tim Hetherington and Chris Hondros, who were both killed in Libya 15 days after Anton, will also be featured.
