Adele's Vogue cover declared 'one of the worst sellers ever' by UK editor

ADELE may be one of the world's highest selling artists, but there's one thing she can't sell - magazines.

The editor of UK Vogue, Alexandra Shulman, has revealed that the magazine's October covergirl didn't hit the right note with readers.

"Adele is the most popular woman in the world, but one of the worst sellers we've ever had," Shulman told vogue.co.uk.

"I find there has to be a relationship with the person on the cover that goes beyond how they look."

Adele has a four-times platinum album, six Grammy Awards and holds the record for the longest number 1 album by a woman in Billboard chart history.

Speaking at a talk in London last night, the Vogue editor also admitted that fame doesn't necessarily translate into sales.

"Our most successful cover was the millennium issue - which didn't have anyone on it, but acted like a mirror so you could see your own reflection!"

But there's one girl Shulman is dying to have as a Vogue covergirl.

"I'd love to have Kate Middleton on the cover,' she told the audience. "I assure you it is not for want of asking."
