WORLD'S coolest rock star. World's most compassionate rock star. What more does Bono want?

Apparently tomorrow he's also going to steal the mantle of  world's wealthiest rocker from Paul McCartney.

The U2 frontman's wealth will officially surpass that of former Beatle McCartney when Facebook goes public, reports music website NME.

The singer owns a 2.3 percent stake in the company, and with Facebook valued at more than $100 billion that makes Bono's shares worth more than $1.5 billion.

The Irish rocker bought his shares for about $A90 million in 2009 through his private equity company.

McCartney is currently the world's richest rock star with a fortune of £665 million.
